Heunginjimun Gate Park is located within a 2-5 minute walk from Dongdaemun station on Subway Line 4, while Hyehwamun Gate is similarly close to Hansung univ. Station on the same line. Both the starting and ending points are easily accessible from subway stations, and the trail includes an observatory along the way. The path is gentle enough for young children to enjoy. You can start from Heunginjimun Gate Park or head in the reverse direction from Hyehwamun Gate.

When beginning at Heunginjimun Gate Park

After getting off at Dongdaemun Station, exit via Exit 10 or Exit 1, then walk to Dongdaemun Seonggwak Park (a 2-5 minute walk). After exploring the park, follow the well-maintained walking path heading north. The entire route is 2.1 km long and takes about an hour to complete.

About halfway through, you’ll reach Naksan Park, which offers a viewpoint overlooking Seoul. Naksan Park is a popular spot, even late in the evening.

After passing Naksan Park, retrace your steps, and on the left, you’ll see the campus of Catholic University, with a road leading ahead. This marks the end of the route, near Hansung University Station. There are plenty of places to eat or grab a drink around Exit 5 and Exit 2 of Hansung University Station.

When beginning at Hyehwamun Gate

It is similar to starting from Heunginjimun Gate Park. However, if you continue south for an additional 20-30 minutes after reaching Dongdaemun Seonggwak Park, you will arrive at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park and DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza). It’s great that, after enjoying fresh air for about an hour and exploring the historic city walls, you can continue to spend time at DDP.
